Have you ever wanted to change something about your life or work? For most people it’s a big “YES!” All of us have challenges or storms, so to speak, that seem to come and go. The secret to getting through these challenges and making sustainable, long-lasting, positive change is changing the equation! Let’s say you have an issue at work or in your life and this issue is a person. I know they never are a person, but let’s just pretend! LOL [C:
Hypothetically, this person is low performing and/or a negative influence on your work/life. If you truly want and need a change you have to change the equation by simply, taking the steps ( e.g. Create a Action list) necessary to change the equation. In life this might mean a person is no longer a part of your life…or at least you take a break from them. At work this may look like documenting and evaluating the person to another seat on the bus…or asking them to get off your bus. Life is too short… it’s time to get serious! If you are having another challenge or issue just ask yourself what do I have to do to change (add to or subtract from) this equation? If I was coaching you, I might ask you to list all the people who are a positive force in your life/work. These are the people who push you and your business in the direction you want and need to go. Of course, then I would also ask you to do the opposite! The hard part for many people is to take massive action and do the things they need to do…primarily because conflict can be tough! It’s easier and more comfortable staying right where they are as the days, weeks, months, and years tick off like one of those old school clocks at grandma’s house.
This might sound hard to some, however as most know we only have so many days to live the life that we truly want. So we have to make the change as soon as possible. When I teach leadership classes I ask participants to figure out how many days they have left by doing this simple equation. 79 – (your age) x 365 = how many days you have left. I have found it’s a great way to motivate people to listen and get serious about the work they have to do!
A few questions for you…
Who are the people in your life that expand your thinking and bring out the best in you?
Who are the people who limit you from becoming who you want to be?
Who creates drama and negativity in your life?
What great things do you see for your life in 2016?
