Recently, I attended a training in Walla Walla, Washington with an amazing group of school superintendents and central office leaders. I absolutely love it when walk away from a training with some new learning or thinking around leadership. Kevin Chase, the superintendent from Grandview shared something he’s been working on with his staff around called “Cowboys to Pit Crews” which was coined by surgeon Atul Gawande. In a nutshell, it’s basically all about how we are stronger as an “Inter-dependent Team” rather than a solo… I’ll figure it out and go it alone Cowboy mentality.
As a John Maxwell coach, trainer, and speaker this philosophy to me relates directly to the law of significance…and I love that law! We are all a product of the people and environment we surround ourselves each and everyday. The person who says they are a self-made man could have (highly likely) a large EGO and fails to give credit to all those people, books, etc who have helped shape who they are over the course of their life.
So using this analogy my question to you is if you are the “NASCAR Race car ” …who has been on the pit crew in your life? My dad, mom, grandpa, coaches, kids, cousins, university professors, teachers, my staff etc. are just a few people who have been on my pit crew!
As a leader and business owner working in a team will produce higher quality work and even better results and who knows… maybe seeing the people in your life as your own personal “PIT CREW” will help take you to the next level and a more HEB! {C:
